I Love a little Mirror diy

I think I’m long overdue for a post y’all!  Life has been busy and it has not really included as much DIY as I usually like…. but the Month of LOVE got me a little inspired.
It all started with seeing this little Nugget of Inspiration over on the PopCosmo Blog.

Love Sign DIY

Pop on over to their site for their Full Tutorial on how they created this sign.

Their kick-butt sign got my long-suppressed inner Martha begging to come out to play.  And when I say Martha, I mean more of this Martha.

And less of this Martha.

I will give her kudos for being a PR Genius… even Prison Orange didn’t hurt her empire!!  Anyway…

I knew I wanted to replicate their LOVE sign and add it to my boring Mantel… that seriously needs lots of Love… and not just of the Cupid Variety!!

I didn’t really want to do a Chalkboard Sign but did want something that I could change once the Valentines Holiday was over.  I had some old Mirrors that have been languishing on my driveway for over a year now… sad I know.
Once something is in a spot for a bit you just stop seeing it… so there they sat getting ruined in bad weather for a year.

LOVE Mirror Before - Primer & Painted Nails

As I started to clean up this hot mess of a mirror, I got more and more upset with myself for leaving them out (I have two) to get ruined….

It was falling apart a little… after all WOOD + RAIN = Stupid Mess!  For some reason, when I think Stupid Mess this picture pops in to my head.

Suddenly my Mess isn't looking so Messy after all.

I decided to forge on and make Lemonade out of this Lemon and hoped that this mess would end up looking aged and lovely.

I used some High Gloss white spray paint that I already had on hand and let it cure for 24 hours.  Once dry I pulled out the Rub ‘n’ Buff I bought quite some time ago and never used.  I dabbed it on the raised parts of the ornamental framing… and I liked it!

See those cracked off bits on the corner?  Do they bother you?  They don’t bother me one bit… I like the character of it now.

I completed my LOVE sign with a smaller, already written out and attached chipboard LOVE sign at Hobby Lobby that I found at 50% off – Score!  I followed exactly the PopCosmo tutorial on that.

LOVE sign - Primer & Painted Nails

I attached my LOVE sign with some removable 3M Command Strips.  It still needed more though…. it looked so small on my Mirror.

I was walking around Michaels looking for some ideas and found this.

A Big, Fat, Water-Based Sharpie!  I've never seen these before!  I’m so excited – I can use this on my Mirror and wipe it off when Valentines is over…. I used it to add a fun-loving quote to my Mirror… and all done… check it out.
