A Special Footstool

I have a special little piece of furniture to show you today.

It has tremendous sentimental value to my family.

It’s this sweet little footstool that was well-loved by my Sweet Mother-in-Law for many years.

Before I talk about this sentimental project, I have to first get mushy about family.

I know we have all heard those In-Law horror stories, and we have all seen movies that make In-Laws seem a total nightmare… a funny nightmare like the Fockers sometimes…. but still a nightmare.

Well, that is totally the opposite case in my life.

I adore the Hubby’s parents.

I loved them from Day 1 and could totally see myself fitting in to their family no problem.  I always felt really blessed and lucky to have such wonderful new people in my life.

This is a picture of my In-Laws when they were young… pre-kids I think.  I love this picture.

They are so cute together.

My favorite part is the way they are holding hands!

We lost my sweet Mother-In-Law a few years ago and have not stopped missing her since.

That’s what makes this little footstool so special.  It was hers.

It is a small way for my family to always have a piece of her.  It is a visual reminder of her and what a wonderful and special lady she was in our lives.

Because of this, it was important to keep the integrity of this piece of furniture.  Luckily for the most part, the wood still looked really good.

Footstool Before 2 - Primer & Painted Nails

Just a few little dings that needed a little buffing and it had dulled a little over the years.

I found this stuff at Home Depot and decided to give it a shot.

Footstool Polish - Primer & Painted Nails

This stuff turned out to be fantastic!

You just rub it on, leave it for 20 minutes and buff it off with a clean rag and Voila.  And it smelled wonderful too!

Look how shiny and rich it looks now.

I also decided to update the fabric in order to better flow with the other furniture in the room.

I know Grammy Lyn (that’s what we call her) would totally approve.

She was a DIY Queen.

She was a total Martha Stewart long before anyone even knew who Martha Stewart was.

I love how this piece turned out and what I love even more is getting to see it everyday and think of the wonderful woman from whom it came!

We love you Grammy Lyn!!!

See You Soon….
